The Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH) has revoked one doctor’s licence and suspended another for breaching regulations governing controlled medicines.

The department said on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, that the measures were taken as part of its oversight of medical practices to protect patient health, uphold standards of care and strengthen professional accountability across the healthcare sector.

According to an official DoH statement, the breaches were identified through cooperation between regulatory bodies, the use of digital and smart systems to monitor medical practices, and periodic inspections.

Investigations found shortcomings in some treatment practices, including inadequate assessment of patients’ clinical conditions, insufficient follow-up and incomplete medical documentation.

One of the breaches involved failure to fully comply with medical record-keeping requirements, including documenting the necessary clinical justification for prescribing controlled medicines.

Controlled medicines are subject to specific regulations and oversight in the UAE because of the potential for misuse or dependence.

DoH stressed that compliance with these requirements is essential to protect patient health and that professional violations are investigated in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The department also said it would continue expanding its digital and smart monitoring systems, strengthening inspections and tracking medical practices to identify and address violations more effectively.

DoH called on all doctors, healthcare workers and medical facilities to fully comply with regulations governing controlled medicines and to ensure thorough patient assessments, proper medical documentation and adequate follow-up throughout treatment.

The department also urged citizens and residents to report any concerns or violations related to healthcare services through official channels.

The statement did not disclose the names or workplaces of the two doctors, the duration of the second doctor’s suspension, or separate details of the violations committed by each doctor.
