Following the suspension of Iranian airlines’ flights to the UAE from Thursday, September 24, 2026, as well as Iranian flights to Oman, Iranian residents of the UAE can currently travel to and from Iran via alternative routes through Türkiye, Iraq and Armenia.

Suggested routes include:

Türkiye: Fly from Dubai or Sharjah to Istanbul, then take an onward flight to Iranian cities such as Tehran, Tabriz or Urmia. Alternatively, travel from Istanbul to Van and continue overland to Iran.

Iraq: Fly from Dubai or Sharjah to Basra, then travel overland to Iran via the Shalamcheh border crossing. Another option is to fly from Sharjah to Najaf and then take an onward flight to Tehran.

Armenia: Fly from Dubai or Sharjah to Yerevan, then take an onward flight to Tehran or continue overland to Iran.

These routes can also be used in the opposite direction, from Iran to the UAE. However, as flight schedules and border conditions may change rapidly, travellers are advised to check flight availability, the operational status of land crossings, and entry or transit requirements in the connecting country before purchasing tickets.
