New Tesla Roadster opens for reservations in UAE; deposits start at Dh210,000
Tesla has opened reservations in the UAE for the next-generation Roadster electric supercar, which the company claims will offer capabilities including driving upside down and even flying in some versions. However, customers must pay reservation deposits ranging from AED 210,000 to AED 1.02 million, with no confirmed delivery date.
According to Khaleej Times, Elon Musk unveiled the redesigned electric supercar last week during a special event in Texas, United States.
The new Roadster is now listed in the vehicle section of Tesla’s official UAE website, with two versions available to reserve.
The stated amounts are reservation deposits only and do not represent the vehicle’s final price. In its Roadster reservation agreement, Tesla said the vehicle’s design, features and hardware remain under development, meaning the final price has yet to be determined.
The final price will be set after customers select the vehicle’s specifications and features.
In addition to the two versions available for reservation, a third model capable of flying has also been announced, although it can be reserved by invitation only.
Does paying a deposit mean the vehicle has been purchased?
Under Tesla’s agreement, a reservation becomes valid only after the company receives the full specified amount, including the second payment within the 10-day deadline, and sends the customer confirmation by email.
However, Tesla has stressed that reserving a Roadster does not constitute a confirmed order or vehicle purchase. It merely gives the applicant an approximate place in the delivery queue.
As production approaches, customers will be invited to select the vehicle’s specifications and features and complete the purchase process.
If the purchase is finalised, the full amount paid for the reservation will be deducted from the vehicle’s final price.
Tesla Roadster prices and reservation terms in the UAE
Tesla’s UAE website has listed two Roadster variants with different features and payment terms.
1. Performance variant: AED 210,000 reservation deposit
This two-seater, described by Tesla as “road-ready,” features active aerodynamics and a multi-mode suction system designed to increase grip and improve handling.
Customers must initially pay AED 20,000, which Tesla says is fully refundable. They must then pay an additional AED 190,000 within 10 days.
This brings the total amount required to reserve the Performance variant to AED 210,000.
2. Thrust variant: AED 1.02 million reservation deposit
This limited-edition two-seater is designed for track use and includes all the features of the Performance variant, along with auxiliary acceleration thrusters.
Tesla claims the system can enable the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in under one second.
To reserve this variant, customers must also make an initial refundable payment of AED 20,000, followed by an additional AED 1 million within 10 days.
Due to limited availability, Tesla has restricted reservations for this variant to one vehicle per customer.
Rocket version: The car Tesla claims can fly
In addition to the two main versions, Tesla has unveiled a third model called the “Rocket,” which the company says is capable of flight.
This single-seat version, described by Tesla as “flight-ready,” combines the features of the other two models with a specialised flight system.
Unlike the Thrust version, whose auxiliary thrusters are located at the rear of the vehicle, the Rocket model is equipped with cold-gas thrusters installed across various parts of the body.
Tesla claims the system allows the vehicle to accelerate upwards and forwards, as well as rotate laterally while airborne.
The thrusters make highly precise adjustments within fractions of a second, helping the vehicle maintain balance and stability in the air.
Explaining the technology, Tesla said: “So yes, this car can fly.”
Despite these claims, the Rocket version is not available for public reservation. Prospective buyers can reserve one only through an exclusive invitation, and the required reservation fee has not been disclosed.
Tesla has explicitly stated that the Rocket version is not approved for use on public roads. The model will also not be available in all regions, with access subject to local laws and regulations.
When Will the Tesla Roadster Be Delivered?
Despite reservations opening for the new-generation Roadster in the UAE, the delivery date for the electric supercar remains unclear.
Tesla states in its official reservation agreement that the Roadster is still under development and that the company cannot guarantee when customers will receive their vehicles.
The agreement states: “No delivery date has been provided, implied or guaranteed.”
Tesla also says it will not be liable for any potential delivery delays.
Elon Musk has said production of the redesigned Roadster will begin in 2028, but the company has yet to announce when deliveries will start.
The second-generation Tesla Roadster was first unveiled in 2017 and has since become one of the US carmaker’s most highly anticipated models.
